Winter Tips: Forest Schools

Outdoor activities can be even more exciting when there is a layer of frost or snow, but its always worth remembering that little people are closer to the cold-ground and may not want to stop the fun to warm up. Here are the specific forest school winter tips.

  • Layering is key. Make sure each child is wearing plenty of Waterproof clothing and lots of breathable layers for warmth.
  • A great excuse for a hot chocolate. Warm drinks and full tummies can help combat the cold.
  • Be ready in case the weather gets too bad. Make sure your staff are trained to know when it’s just ‘too wet/cold’. Ensure your team know how and when to take shelters down before forecast heavy snowfall to prevent damage.
  • Risk assessments should outline what adjustments should be made for the weather.
